In line with the celebration of the National Arts Month 2011, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through its Ateneo Peace and Culture Institute (APCI) and the Gallery of Peninsula and the Archipelago, will host the Lami-Lamihan: A Public Talk and Exhibit on the History and Culture of the Yakan on February 3, 2011, 1:30 in the afternoon at the Campion Lecture Hall, 2/F BC Building, Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
This event is part of the Cultural Awareness Program of the APCI that seeks to promote cultural consciousness for solidarity, better understanding and deeper appreciation of the different ethnolinguistic groups of Western Mindanao.
The activity is one of Ateneo’s contributions to the promotion of the integration of local history and culture into the regular instruction curriculum in Western Mindanao schools, colleges and universities. This long-term work is, in turn, part of the greater efforts to promote peace through better inter-cultural understanding and appreciation.
