The term “SACSI” in the Filipino language means “witness”. It stands for “Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement”. The office serves as the LINK between the school and the outside communities to compliment theories learned in the classroom with the actual realities of life.

SACSI is the social involvement arm of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. It is guided by the principles of academic excellence, socio-political maturity, and spiritual growth. Its primary concern is the total formation of the students --- to be Men and Women of God, Men and Women for others, able to make a difference wherever they may be.

BEGINNINGS

Prior to the establishment of SACSI, the Campus Ministry Office had the dual role of catering to Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s needs on spiritual formation as well as the social involvement. Then in 1987, the Office of Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI- the same name as Ateneo the Manila University ’s Social Involvement Arm) was created as a unit within the Campus Ministry. Soon after its establishment, OSCI was renamed SASCI for purposes of its own identity. Within two years of existence, as the office was growing and its programs becoming more extensive, SACSI evolved into an office operating distinctly from the Campus Ministry.
