Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is SACSI an NGO (non-government organization) within the university?

Ans: NO, SACSI Office is an intrinsic office of the university that acts as the link between the Ateneo community and its surrounding society.
SACSI through its different programs either bring relevant social issues into the school for intelligent discussion (and possible involvement for social change), or bring the Ateneo community outside its academic boundaries ( e.g. FFP-NSTP areawork, semestral break immersion program, summer of service, etc.)

2. What is the source of the SACSI's funds?

Ans: Being a contingent office of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, SACSI naturally receives financial allocation from the university. Moreover, in activities that may need more budget, the volunteers and staff seek sponsorships and/or participants' counterpart that may be in cash or kind as considered necessary. (For sponsorship proposals, please contact us at sacsi@central.adzu.edu.ph)

3. What are the activities of SACSI?

Ans: The regular activity of SACSI is to lead the FFP-NSTP students to their respective adopted barangays and there to implement their projects. The projects depend on the need identified by the Barangay Chair, such as Literacy Training to public elementary school non-reader pupils, or Community Organizing on Solid Waste Management, and the likes. This is conducted every Saturday for the entire school year.

SACSI also holds forums and discussions on the highly-affecting social issues in the politics, economic, or cultural arena. Moreover, it provides the Ateneo students, faculty, and staff a venue for exposure/immersion in the rural areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula, as a way of imbibing concern for the poor and giving free service to local communities, NGOs and POs (people's organizations).

4. Does the SACSI Office have a Volunteer Service Program (VSP)?

Ans: Yes, the Volunteer Program of SACSI Office handles the training of volunteers, in terms of equipping them with the proper skills to carry out any task given to them, nurturing and empowering them to fulfill their individual personal roles and responsibilities.

5. What do SACSI volunteers do?

Ans: The SACSI volunteers are the heart of the office. They assist in the implementation of the different activities and projects such as SIMO (Social Involvement Month), forums, promotion, advocacies, fund-raising activities, FFP-NSTP area works, etc…

6. Who may join the SACSI Volunteer Program?

Ans: Recruitment is conducted during the first six weeks of the school year. Membership is open to all college students, though preferences are reserved for first-year and second-year college students. Although, we also encourage non-SACSI volunteers to assist in our activities like facilitating in FFP-NSTP, and join the SBIP and SOS.

The faculty and staff are highly invited to participate during SIMO, EHEM! and NAMFREL.

7. How can I help/support in any of the SACSI projects/activities?

Ans: For those who are interested to help in our upcoming activities, you may contact us at sacsi@central.adzu.edu.ph, or look for Divina Gracia F. Benitez at the SACSI Office).
