AdZU set to kickoff Mindanao Peace Games

Ateneo de Zamboanga University is all set for the 5th Mindanao Peace Games on October 24-28, 2019. The Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) is an all-women sports event.

At the helm of this year’s Peace Games is AdZU as the host school. A total of 14 Mindanao schools– the biggest the MPG has housed by far, is set to converge in the Ateneo for the 5-day event.

Women Empowerment is one of the key messages of MPG along with Peace and Community Building and Transformational Leadership. The MPG envisions an arena where female Mindanao athletes excel in friendly sports, grow in their game, and in the process, play their part in community-building and peace advocacy.

Living by the mantra “Kalaro, Kaibigan, Kasama,” it broke new grounds in sports by defying stereotypes and the belief that the end goal is to triumph over other sporting bodies. Aside from the athletic events, it features TED talks, recreational activities, and growth sessions that empower and transform Mindanao athletes to become sports leaders and allowing the coaches to gather together and learn from each other, thus setting a higher playing field for sports competitions in the Philippines.

“The Mindanao Peace Games is more than just games. It is a means to building communities and achieving peace in Mindanao—an advocacy that the Ateneo is equally committed to.”

– Rey Reyes, AdZU University Athletics Director
