By Ralph Chua, SMA Information Officer

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s School of Management and Accountancy (SMA), in partnership with Miriam College of Quezon City, conducted a three-day training-workshop for Business Administration faculty in Region IX, dubbed 21st century Pedagogical Skills and Competencies for Teaching Innovation and Creativity last August 14-16, 2019 at the FWS Multi-Purpose Hall in AdZU’s Salvador campus in La Purisima.

The “Spiderweb Strategy”

The “Vlog Exercise”

These are some of the creative innovations from the training-workshop.

The Spiderweb Strategy is a comprehensive instructional package composed of lectures, case analyses of relevant videos, and group activities, while the “Vlog Exercise,” employs the use of video blogs to explain a management topic.

Nineteen (19) participants from across the peninsula attended the training which sought to upgrade professors’ competency through the creation of teaching innovations for use in the classrooms as workshop outputs. HEIs represented include: Western Mindanao State University, Universidad de Zamboanga, Notre Dame College of Jolo, Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Saint Joseph College of Sindangan, Saint Columban College, and AdZU.

Future plans include conducting an action research for testing and documenting the results of the strategies borne from the training-workshop.

AdZU SMA faculty participated in the training as part of SMA’s faculty development program. SMA Dean Maynard Bagtasos stated that the training is one of the first steps of the SMA in its pursuit to be a Center of Excellence.

Dexter Velez, Management Department Chair, highlighted the importance of the event for business schools, in cultivating creativity in classroom teaching.
