Ateneo kicks off homecoming with Mass, switching on of Christmas tree

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s Alumni homecoming kicked off today, November 29, with the Jubilarians’ Mass officiated by Fr Errol Nebrao, SJ of the silver jubilarians’ batch (HS 94) with the Jesuit community in full force, at the University Church of the Sacred Heart chapel, at the Salvador campus in La Purisima St, this city.

Following the Eucharistic celebration was the switching on of the lights of the Christmas tree at the Bellarmine Campion Centennial grounds. This was followed by the neon-themed parade around town, and culminated with the welcome program and fellowship night at the backfield.

Conrado Balatbat, director of the Alumni Relations Office is enjoining all AdZU alumni, especially jubilarians, to come “home to the nest” and participate in the activities slated for this year’s homecoming.

A highlight of the annual reunion of the Blue Eagles is the Blessing of the Capilla del Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar and the Fr Duffy Conference Room, and the Unveiling of the Markers of both structures tomorrow, November 30, at the FWS Building.

The Capilla del Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar is a gift from the High School Class of 1977, while the Fr. Charles Duffy, S.J. Conference Room, is from the High School Class of 1967.

On December 1st, to be held in the morning is the General Assembly and elections, and the Homecoming Mass; in the evening, the Blue and White Night at 6:00 at the Palacio del Sur, Gov Camins Ave, this city.
