AdZU-SED holds 20th Annual Pre-Service Teachers' Convention

Upholding the commitment it made two decades ago with the now defunct Philippine-Australian Project in Basic Education (PROBE) Program, of working for quality education in Region 9, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Education held the 20th Pre-Service Teachers’ Convention last February 2 to 4, 2018 at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall.

The Pre-Service Teachers’ Convention was conceptualized as part of the 5-year development plan with PROBE. Even after the termination of the project, the School of Education has carried on with the annual convention and has produced thousands of alumni-teachers who are better equipped with skills for more effective teaching.

This year’s theme, “Enhancing Knowledge, Practices and Experiences on Teaching Trends, Patterns and Innovations,” featured seasoned AdZU faculty members who talked about current trends in teaching, handled workshops on application of active learning strategies, creation of lessons for effective classroom instruction, and walked the participants through the DepEd Curriculum Guides. Notable addition to this year’s pool of facilitators are Senior Education students who ran some of the sessions on Whole Child Apporach P21 (21st Century Skills), Project-Based Learning, and Expedition Learning.

Graduating Education students and College Faculty from Mindanao Autonomous College Foundation Incorporated, Notre Dame College of Jolo, Claret College of Isabela, Marawi State University-Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanology, Mahardika Institute of Technology, Dipolog Institute College of Technology, Zamboanga State College of Marine Science of Technology, Furigay College, Josephina H. Cerilles State College–Mati Campus, Pagadian Capitol College, Basilan State College, Southern City Colleges and other schools from Region IX and ARMM particularly BASULTA (Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi) Area participated in this convention.

Led by Dean of Education Dr Evelyn Chavez and Professor Anita Tagadiad, the event targeted to apply active learning strategies that will engage students/pupils at maximum learning; create lessons for classroom instruction that respond to the learners’ inherent learning modalities and intelligence dominance; and demonstrate capabilities to instruct, assess, and evaluate students’/pupils’ academic performance.
