About the Training

Now on its second year of implementation, NGEC has posed a myriad of challenges to colleges and universities in the region. Foremost is the lack of trained faculty to handle the nine (9) core courses as envisioned by CHED (see CMO no. 50, s. 2016). To mitigate this, CHED has provided sample syllabi for the different NGEC Core courses. However, while the sample syllabi have facilitated the first year of implementation, the experiences of the faculty in using these syllabi reveal that these syllabi necessitate further revisions and that the faculty require formal training to better handle the core courses.

Thus, the SLA-AdZU conducts this intensive training to capacitate college faculty, pre-service college teachers, and those who plan to teach in college, both in content and pedagogy in the new general education core courses. In particular, this training takes into consideration the contexts of colleges and universities in the region, which further complicates the implementation of NGEC. With the CHED-trained faculty, SLA-AdZU hopes to assist colleges and universities in the region in bridging the gap between policy and practice.
